Wildlife of Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka is ranked amongst the world’s twenty five biodiversity hot spots. It is world  renowned  as one of the best places to watch elephants and leopards for  nature enthusiastic and photographers. There   are season for elephant gathering  where  large concentration of wild elephants  together can be seen during this time at national parks and place called Minneriya. Primate safaris  are arranged with cultural tours as it is possible to find wide range of primates in place surrounded by cultural heritages mainly in the dry zone. During the early part of the year ( January-April) its popular event to watch, ‘ blue in off shores of southern city Galle. Sinharaja,  the tropical rainforest of the country is the place to observe wide range of flora and funa .Bundala can be conceder as the  birds watches delight.

Gems



Throughout history, Sri Lanka has been known as a land of gems.
The Blue Sapphire is king of Sri Lankan gems. The 400 carat Blue Sapphire called “Blue Belle”, which adorns the British Crown, is from Sri Lanka. 
Besides rubies and shapphire, the illama soil also bears cat’s eyes, alexandrites, aquamarines, tourmalines, spinels, topaz, garnets, amethyst, zircons and variety of other stones. 
Sri Lanka is home to 40 varieties of Gems out of 85 varieties available in the whole world. Gems of Sri Lanka have found there way to many a court all over the world since time immemorial.









Esala Perahera



The glittering Esala Perahera, which is 235 years old, is one of the grandest events we have in Sri Lanka. Many locals and foreigners look forward to witness this wonderful festival every year. This is held during the Esala month, in August, honouring the sacred tooth relic. Many foreigners who have been fascinated by the Perahera have written notes about it; among them is the famous British poet and novelist, D. H. Lawrence, who describes the Perahera as a “perpetual fire-laughing motion among the slow shuffle of elephants.”
